Unlike Hogarth we have a much rosier view of gin, to put it in a nutshell - we love the stuff. The past couple of years has seen an explosion in the number and styles of gin available, and at one stage or another many of them have graced our shelves.
We have a new addition to that list, Darnley's View, quite possibly the perfect summer gin. Alongside the essential juniper sit the aromas of citrus and elderflower followed by a warm ginger and spice finish. We love it, that's why we have it, but you don't have to take just our word for it, the Wine Enthusiast Magazine rated Darnley's View at 95/100 declaring it a
"beautiful small-batch gin"
The Darnley's View is £23.95 and joins our roster of gins that includes American gins such as Aviation Gin and Leopold Brothers, another Scottish gin The Botanist (distilled at Bruichladdich using 22 botanicals sourced from Islay), Fifty Pound Gin, Hendrick's, William's Gin from Chase distilleries as well as old faithfuls such as Gordon's, Tanqueray, Bombay Sapphire and Beefeater.
It's quite startling how different they all are in style and yet they all remain indisputably and unmistakably gin. So next time your thoughts turn to a G&T, Martini, Gin Fizz, Negroni, Gin Rickey, Pink Gin or Singapore Sling head down to Connolly's and let us pair you up with the perfect gin for you drink of choice.
You really should have been there………………
There are tastings and then there are tastings and last month we served up the most phenomenal Italian Masterclass in the company of Michael Palij, Master of Wine, who steered us through some of his most recent discoveries (notably a Sardinian quartet which provided all the evidence you need of the revolution taking place in the island’s vineyards and cellars).
